If you're wondering whether learning English is useful for you or not, it really depends on your situation. If you're wondering whether English is useful as an everyday language, but you don't live in a country where it's spoken, then obviously not. If you're wondering whether a foreign language or English is useful if you use it in a non-formal workplace, Well, the answer depends on how often you will meet foreigners who use that language. However, English is more useful when used in more formal environments or workplaces.

So, why do I say that English is better and more useful when used in formal environments? Because usually in government or private companies, there are several fields that use this language as often as possible. These are usually fields such as international trade, diplomacy or global relations, information technology and digital marketing, public administration, translation, and so on. In these fields, you will interact with foreigners more often. Also, by learning this language, your career opportunities will increase significantly compared to before you learned it.

Why do I say that? This is because lately, many companies have been using global relations to facilitate and expand the scope of cooperation between companies. An example is the cooperation between Chevron and PT Pertamina on an exploration project to produce oil and natural gas. Another example is the joint venture between BMW AG from Germany and Brilliance Auto Group, a Chinese company, which was formed in 2003 in response to Chinese government regulations. So, those are some examples I can give of global collaborations between companies around the world and in Indonesia.

So, in conclusion, if someone says that English isn't important to use or "don't act like an English speaker," and so on, there's some truth to that. They're right, but they don't mean it's important to use it daily unless you live in a country where the language is spoken. However, English is crucial for interacting with foreigners and in a more global work environment. Using English is also crucial for improving career opportunities in formal employment, where we have the opportunity to earn a better living, and so on.
